
COLLIOURE AND THE SURROUNDING AREA
There are a number of things to see and do in Collioure and the surrounding area. The town is full of history including the ancient church which was once a lighthouse at the entrance to the bay. In 1905, Matisse and Derain discovered Collioure. They found the colours and light dazzlingly beautiful and invented the Fauvist Art. Today, all along the " Fauvism footpath ", you will discover 20 reproductions displayed on the spots where the original works were painted.
Picasso, Dali, Juan Gris, Hanicotte, Foujita also fell in love with Collioure.

FORT OF ST ELME
Fort St Elme which overlooks the bay of Collioure. You can take 'Le Petit Train Touristique' up to the top to see the spectacular view.

COLLIOURE MARKET
Collioure's Market (every Wednesday and Sunday) and is a fabulous display of colours, sights and smells.

COLLIOURE AT NIGHT
At night Collioure is fantastic and comes alive as people eat out and drink in the large number of street cafes, restaurant and bars.

COLLIOURE VINEYARDS
All around Collioure there are acres of beautifully kept vineyards. Within a short walk of the house you can lose yourself for miles walking among the vines high up into the mountains.

PERPIGNAN
Perpignan is the nearest city to Collioure and known as the Paris of the South.

BANYULS
Further round on the coastal road Banyuls gives its name to the local sweet wine produced in the area.

CANIGOU
Canigou is the highest point in the area forming part of the Pyrenees.

VILLEFRANCHE de CONFLENT
This is a beautiful walled village with a fabulous church overlooking it from the mountains above.

LE PETIT TRAIN JAUNE
Take the train from Villefranche for a breathtaking train journey through the mountains.

CASTLENOU
Situated in a very rural poition surrounded by the mountains and countryside Castlenou is one of the most beautiful and peaceful villages in the area.
